Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus….FUNUNDRUM- what my family thought of the show!

Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, FUNUNDRUM! We went last night- my husband and I took our 2 1/2 year old and our almost 8 month old baby to see the “Greatest Show on Earth”. Let me start by saying that in the past my son has told me that he is scared of clowns. For some reason he just does not like them. He was very excited to go to the circus….we traveled almost 2 hours to get there and we sit down in our seats and he turns to my husband and says “I want to go home. I don’t like clowns”. Then the show started and his eyes widenened. He watched in amazement, the entire show…saying over and over “How did they DO that”? and “Did YOU SEE that”? Half way through he turned to me and said, “Mommy, I not afraid of clowns anymore”! He loved every minute of the show. There were Acrobats and Rubber Band Women that make you wonder- “how is that humanly possible”. There were athletes that displayed just exactly what “super human strength” really is. The animals were breathtaking and entertaining. It was amazing to see one of the largest animals on earth so amazingly agile…performing with such precision and accuracy. The tigers were beautiful and it kept you on the edge of your seat as their trainer flirted with such danger. The mutual love and respect was evident in the relationship that seemed to come so naturally between them. Then there were the motorcycles and the 16 foot steal globe…this you would have to see to believe…..although I saw it, and I still am having trouble believing what I saw. This was one of our favorite parts of the show….Six motorcycles racing at speeds up to 65 miles an hour inside the globe. The balance and timing was unreal….crisscrossing and circling within the metal sphere. Jaw dropping. This show was colorful and filled with great energy that kept even my 7 1/2 month old baby still on my lap during the entire show! We highly recommend Barnum’s Funundrum….after all it is FUN for the whole family….creating memories your little ones will not soon forget! There is a reason that it is called “The Greatest Show on Earth”.

Child Proofing Your Home….and your Heart

I thought my bathroom vanity’s were child-proof..until this morning. I had removed all of the dangerous items that I though could ever potentially harm a curious toddler and put them on the highest shelf of my bathroom closet long ago. This morning I realized that maybe I did not do such a great job at removing the things that could be potentially MESSY…. we woke up early and because we had been out late last night at the circus and we were still tired I thought we would relax in bed a little longer…I turned Jungle Book on for my two year old and he was watching it on my bed….I went into my baby’s room to change his diaper for 5 mins…when I came back he was not on my bed and my bathroom door was closed. I knew he was into something!! I went in and he had gotten in to my bobbi brown chocolate brown long wearing eye liner gel and smeared it all over our cream tile…all over his hands, feet and face and everything he touched along the way. There were chocolate brown foot prints all over my bathroom. Now when they say “long wearing” they are not joking around. It took me a long time to get it off of his body and out from under his finger nails. Then I started to work on the floor. I got most of it up but a lot of spots wouldn’t budge…no matter how hard I scrubbed. I was baffled when soap and water, Clorox cleaner and make up remover ALL would not take it off my tile. I started to search for the container of eye liner gel….that is when I found the lid to the fast drying clear nail polish top coat (“Out the Door”) and realized he had dumped that on the floor before smearing the eye liner gel. Finally it came up with nail polish remover. I put him in time out ONLY because he knew he was not supposed to go into my cabinets and he deliberately shut the door to be sneaky about it. When I put him in time out he sat there and said “ Mommy, I am very sorry, I didn’t mean to make a mess…it was an accident. I am going to come over there and give you a BIG kiss and then you won’t be angry anymore and you will feel better. OK?” so he came over, kissed me on my cheek….caressed my face and said…”there, do you feel better now? You are a good girl….I am going to go finish watching my show now”. So as my heart continued to melt I continued cleaning the floor. Talk about pulling heart strings…. Not long after I finished cleaning up the last bit of brown, he said he wanted to go into his room to do puzzles…I was nursing the baby on our bed and so I told him he could go do his puzzles. I was listening to him playing…..for some reason I did not hear the water running or hear him “giving the giraffe soap dispenser a bath” and he proceeded to over flow the sink onto the bathroom floor! When I got in there and saw the flood, I didn’t have the heart to yell…after all he was giving the giraffe a bath. So what did I learn this morning? I learned that you can always do a better job of child-proofing your home- but you can NEVER ever child-proof your heart.

Help your community and get a free pass to Disney World!

Have you ever wondered how you could help your community but just didn’t know who to contact or who was in need? I was just introduced to a program that allows you to search your area for community volunteer opportunities. I searched my area code and over 300 opportunities came up. Some just want you to do a walk at the zoo, some want donations and some need your time. There were so many to choose from. They all have partnered with Disney World and Disney Land to give those who volunteer a FREE 1 Day Pass to 1 Theme Park. What a great idea! I love it. If you are planning a trip to Disney- why not give a little of your heart and time now and play with your family in Disney later! This is a wonderful opportunity if you have children or teenagers as many of the opportunities allow children of certain ages under 18 to volunteer. What this could teach them could be a lesson that they would carry with them for a lifetime. If you are interested and want more information here is the link! It is a very simple process and the reward is worth every minute of your time! www.GiveADayGetADisneyDay.com
When it comes down to it the reward here is not really the pass to Disney- I have a feeling it will be so much more than that…it will be the reward that you give yourself that no amount of money can match. It will be the reward that you give the person or organization, by volunteering. It was sad to me to see so many people and organizations in need and at the same time- it gave me a feeling hope as I now know how I as an individual and we as a community can help them! If you do end up volunteering, I would love for you to come back to this blog and tell us about your exerience! I will be sure to blog about my experience once we have completed our volunteer time! If everyone gave just one day…..think about it!

Baby Lotion- What soothes? What Stings?

Your little one has the cutest little baby face….and then winter comes and it gets chaffed and chapped. It is red and dry and you just know it is hurting them. It breaks your heart because you know as long as they are teething there is no end in sight to the drool. I have tried so many products, both natural and not so natural in desperation, and my baby would just scream and cry when I would put them on his little cheeks. I was shocked at this, as they were specifically for baby skin. I have very dry hands in the wintertime and so I decided to try these products on myself and my heart broke when it burned my hands and continued stinging them for a few minutes after I applied the lotion. I finally just found a product from our local health food store. It is Weleda- calendula baby facial lotion. It smells wonderful but most importantly- my baby does not cry when I put it on his little red cheeks. He may not be able to talk to me, but that says it all! When it comes to my baby’s skin I want to use the most natural products available! The Weleda is the most natural I have found, that works- but even that has alcohol in it. I can’t help but wonder if I am defeating the purpose- as I try to soothe and heal his skin, am I drying it out at the same time? I would love to know what products you have used and if you (and your baby) like it! For now I will continue to use the Weleda….but will continue to search for a product that soothes and heals my babies skin….one that is as gentle and pure as he is!
