Only seventeen miles up the Savannah River from the ocean! A popular tourist destination for those wanting to put themselves in the mind set of what it would have been like to be a part of the Old South before the Civil War. The ancient history surrounding the town dates back to 1773 and is the largest town in Georgia. Spanish moss surrounds the garden squares as a reminder of the Southern atmosphere you are immersed in, among the models of 18th and 19th century architecture. The downtown historic district takes days to explore, never leaving one without something to do.

Paula Dean has even been attracted to Savannah’s southern charm and has opened her own restaurant and kitchen store, “Lady and Son’s”. Come and enjoy a real southern meal! Local shopping can be found at the Savannah and Oglethorpe Mall, however if you would like a shopping experience where you get to view the town at the same time, travel downtown! Here you will be able to experience little unique shops and restaurants lining the Savannah River down on Broughton & River Street. Along the cobble stone waterfront, old cotton ware houses are lined among the several old famous homes open for tours. SCAD University shares the art they study among the town! For those of you who have read the book or seen the movie, “The Garden of Good & Evil”, you can discover the home of where it took place!

If you have a daughter who is in Girl Scouts, she is most likely to enjoy the house of Juliet Lowe- the first Girl Scout in America, who is sure to be a great role model! To make sure you see everything, book a tour on a horse and carriage to feel you are back in the 1800’s! Your children will love the University of Georgia’s Marine Education Center & Aquarium! This is a fun filled day and will occupy your children’s interest to all degrees! The Ships of the Sea Museum is also open and great for children who are interested in old town history up close! If you wait until night for a bit of relief from the warm weather, you can schedule a ghost tour which is raved about by many! The parents will love the history and the kids will enjoy the spooky stories! Watch out for the ghosts revisiting from years past!

Savannah is a great place for night life action, but also a great place to leave your children with a Guardian Angels Babysitter! If your children are too scared to go on the Ghost tours at night, go with your spouse on one of these tours which is always being talked about around town. Paula Deen would love you to come on down to her famous restaurant you are always seeing on TV in downtown Savannah! While the babysitter interacts with your children at home, there are also many night clubs in Savannah throughout the city for a late night out. Book a sitter today to be part of the late night city action!
